Two people Kayaking on Island Lake

With four seasons of activities, Island Lake is the perfect destination for the active individual. The beautiful scenery of the surrounding area is captivating as you walk, bike, hike or jog on the trails running beside the 182 hectare reservoir. The natural landscape and diverse wildlife in the area are sure to make you forget that you’re just steps from the urban centre of Dufferin County.

During the warmer months, with water stretching as far as the eye can see, visitors can rent a canoe or kayak and explore the little seen areas of the surrounding shoreline or bring their fishing rods and spend the day reeling in bass, pan fish and pike. People operating motorized watercraft require a Pleasure Craft Operators Licence .

As the weather becomes cooler and the snow begins to fall, Island Lake becomes dotted with ice fishing huts as anglers try to reel in the catch of the day, skaters twirl and glide along the lake surface, and the trails come alive with snow-shoers and cross-country skiers.  As the snow crunches beneath your feet and the ice crackles on the branches of nearby trees, you will be reminded of the beauty of Canada and all that it has to offer.
